high schoolI am a 1999 graduate of Southside High School in Southside, AL (Rainbow City kids go to Southside for high school). In high school, I was involved in several extracurricular activities, but my favorite by far was marching band. The image to the left shows the band from my senior year (the red circle shows me). During my senior year, I received a music scholarship to play baritone saxophone in the Gadsden State Community College Show Band.

backgroundWelcome to my online professional portfolio! To tell you a little bit about my past, I grew up in Rainbow City, Alabama. Rainbow City is near Gadsden, AL located in Northeast Alabama. The image on the left is the house I grew up in and my parents still live there.
collegeI began my college career at Gadsden State Community College in the fall of 1999. I initially started as a music major with the intention of becoming a band director. However, like many first-year college students, I changed my major to social science education with the goal of becoming a high school history teacher. Because my experiences at Gadsden State were truly life-changing, I began to realize that I eventually wanted to teach within the community college. After finishing my undergraduate degree in education, I began my teaching career. After finishing masters degrees in history and sociology, my dream of teaching in the community college finally came true in January 2008.
