ail 689: Practicum in Instructional Technology
Course Description:
Students pursue individual research in educational computer technology and are required to implement, analyze, and report findings in APA format.
Course Reflection:
Practicum in Instructional Technology is the capstone class for the program. In this class, I was prepared to begin the process of moving toward the dissertation phase. So, as one can imagine, this is a truly valuable course. The activities in the class all center around understanding the expectations of the graduate school, the program, and the institutional review board (IRB).
The activities of this class consisted of article critiques, dissertation critiques, and a mock IRB proposal. Of all of these activities, I think the dissertation critiques were the most useful for me. This activity allowed me to explore potential dissertation topics and look for dissertations that were similar to what I wanted to research. I was able to see the different components of a dissertation and get a better understanding of how dissertations are constructed and organized. Also, I was able to explore different research methodologies that could be used to perform my own study. With all of this being said, the IRB certification activity was also very useful. When I fill out the IRB, I'll know what to expect and hopefully, there won't be too many surprises.
Overall, AIL 689 was successful in preparing me for the dissertation phase of my degree. The activities and projects culminated in a successful capstone experience.
